Over the centuries; the furoshiki has been used in different ways, but it became very popular in the Edo period. It can be made of several fabrics (silk, chirimen, cotton, rayon, nylon) and various thickness which makes its price point variable. Most of the time, the furoshiki is made in the shape of a square which is traditionally 45x45cm and 70x70cm, but they can come in all sizes. It is still commonly used to transport lunch boxes and double as a table mat for lunch but also to wrap gifts. The patterns and colours of the fabric can convey different meanings.
