It is a traditional tie used as a torture mandated to be one of the 7 official punishments for criminals and ennemies of the state during the Edo period known under the name of ebizeme. This position becomes very challenging over time due to the back arching. Furthermore the configuration makes it impossible to escape, it makes the feeling of vulnerability, helplessness and exposure quite present in addition with other positions like rolling the model on their back, bottom or the side or even tying them to an hashira to expose the private parts and thighs.
In hojojutsu this position wasn’t meant to be comfortable and was actually done with only one strand of rope to accentuate the already present uncomfortability of the tie but it had a high chance to damage the nerves but was even more effective for capture and punishment.
